The Kettler outdoor composite tops are a full 7/8" thick. In order to get the normal ball-bounce for table tennis it is necessary that the table have a wood top. Tables tops made of only synthetic materials and resins will lack this type of lively bounce. All Kettler outdoor table tennis tables have a wood core that is completely encapsulated in aluminum. The wood core is totally protected from moisture by the aluminum, and the aluminum is totally sealed by invisible welds below the surface that bonds the aluminum to itself. The table top is nicely painted and finished. There isn't a sense that the wood top is incapsulated. The embossed pattern in the aluminum on the bottom of the Kettler outdoor table tops provides a critical feature in preventing delamination of the composite materials within the table top (the most serious threat to outdoor tables). This embossed texture which is unique to Kettler tables, provides the aluminum with a spring-like quality that flexes with the wood core as it expands and contracts in response to temperature changes virtually eliminating delamination. Every Kettler outdoor table tennis table has a chassis that is made of thoroughly rust-proofed heavy-gauge high carbon steel.
